6/13/16 – WGU Missouri Graduate Captures National Honors for Outstanding Service by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing

WGU Missouri graduate Lori Scheidt, who serves as executive director of the Missouri State Board of Nursing in Jefferson City, is being recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) with the Meritorious Service Award for her contributions to the mission and vision of the organization. Scheidt is set to receive the award during the NCSBN Annual Meeting and Delegate Assembly, being held in Chicago, Aug. 17-19, 2016.

Scheidt has served with the Missouri State Board of Nursing for more than 27 years, and in the position of executive director for the past 15 years. The organization works to protect the public with the development and enforcement of laws governing the safe practice of nursing. During her time there, Scheidt and her team have licensed and regulated 136,473 nursing professionals in Missouri, while working to advance the nursing profession. Scheidt completed her MBA in healthcare management through WGU Missouri in 2012.

Even with her busy schedule, Scheidt found time to further her education through WGU Missouri’s competency-based program, which gave her flexibility to complete her degree in under a year while allowing her to employ critical-thinking skills to write papers and create presentations that linked new concepts to quality healthcare practice.

“WGU Missouri is very proud to have Lori Scheidt as a member of our alumni,” said WGU Missouri Chancellor Angie Besendorfer. “She exemplifies the qualities of individuals who make up our student body at WGU Missouri. The flexibility our program provides offers the opportunity for someone like Lori who, in a demanding position, can still complete their degree.”

Scheidt is one of five NCSBN members that will be recognized at the organization’s annual awards ceremony later this summer. NCSBN is an independent not-for-profit organization that was created to lessen the burdens of state governments and bring together boards of nursing (BONs) to act and counsel together on matters of common interest. NCSBN provides education, service and research through collaborative leadership to promote evidence-based regulatory excellence for patient safety and public protection.
