9/17/2015 – Aspiring and Established Small Business Owners are Invited to Attend Free Weekly “Big Ideas on Small Business” Seminars

The seminars will be held every Thursday through Nov. 19 at the MET Center in Wellston

Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs are invited to attend and participate in a new series of free weekly seminars to gain insight from established professionals on owning and operating a business. Hosted by St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. and sponsored by Midland States Bank, the Big Ideas on Small Business Seminars will be held every Thursday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. through Nov. 19 in room 205 of the MET Center, located at 6347 Plymouth Ave., St. Louis MO 63133.

The weekly seminars focus on different aspects of entrepreneurship and owning, as well as starting and operating, a small business. A range of topics will be covered, including financing, business planning, sales, marketing strategies, basics of accounting, small business taxes, employment law, social media, finding commercial real estate and state and federal programs that benefit small business. To share knowledge and expertise on these topics, there will be professionals from Midland States Bank, Justine PETERSEN, Better Family Life, St. Louis Development Corporation, STL Tax, and more. Each session will last about an hour with coffee and bagels provided for those in attendance.

The seminar was created by St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. as part of the organization’s mission of empowering and connecting the communities along the St. Vincent Greenway, a biking and walking trail being developed by Great Rivers Greenway. When complete, the greenway will run more than seven miles between Forest Park and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

“St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. wants to make resources available to those who live or work along the St. Vincent Greenway in the communities of Normandy, Wellston and Pagedale and the city neighborhoods of the West End and Skinker-DeBaliviere,” said Kevin Triggs, President of the St. Vincent Greenway, Inc. Board of Directors.

The first Big Ideas on Small Business seminar kicked off last Thursday, Sept. 10, with an inspirational presentation from Eddie Davis, a successful businessman and founder of the Center for the Acceleration of African-American Business (CAAAB). The CAAAB supports the growth and development of businesses owned by African-Americans in the St. Louis metropolitan region by providing needed resources and strategically partnering experienced volunteer mentors with business owners.
