6/13/16 – Next Weekly “Walk to the Wharf” Set for Thursday, June 16

Downtown employees and area residents are invited to explore the newly reopened Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard along the riverfront, grab lunch and listen to live music every Thursday through July 28

Great Rivers Greenway, in partnership with CityArchRiver, Downtown STL, Inc., and STLBlues.net, is bringing entertainment, food trucks and other activities to the transformed St. Louis riverfront. Every Thursday through July 28th, downtown employees, area residents and visitors alike are invited to “Walk to the Wharf,” where they can grab lunch and listen to live music along the recently reopened riverfront on Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard. The event, being held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the foot of the Arch grand staircase features different live music and a variety of activities and food trucks each week.

This Thursday’s “Walk to the Wharf” lineup will feature live music, courtesy of Bootigrabbers Delight, and food from Wayno’s, Pnoy Kings, Brazil Express, and MK’S Rolls & Wraps. The following week, on June 23, Matt “The Rattlesnake” Lesch Band will be performing, and Angie Burger, Pnoy Kings, and Frankly Sausages will be serving food.

The weekly event gives residents the opportunity to explore and enjoy the expanded Mississippi River greenway along the riverfront. The 1.5-mile stretch includes the rebuilt Leonor K. Sullivan Boulevard and extension of the greenway from the Biddle Street Trailhead south to Chouteau Avenue, with protected walking and biking paths. The entire riverfront was elevated an average of almost two feet to limit flooding, returning more days of the year back to the community for walking, riding bikes, sightseeing and special events. While the historic elements were preserved, such as the cobblestones lining the levee, new amenities such as benches, bike racks, lights, power outlets and a street-level stage will make the space more inviting for events and programs. The lineup for this summer and fall includes not only “Walk to the Wharf” but also bike rides, walk/run events, swap meets and more.

“The riverfront is open for everyone to explore and enjoy,” says Matt Brinkmann, Great Rivers Greenway Special Events Manager. “We encourage area residents to come down and see all the improvements and watch the progress of the construction on the Arch grounds. All are welcome to pack a lunch or purchase something from one of the food trucks. We’ll provide the fresh air, view of the Mississippi River and musical entertainment.”

Visitors can easily get to the event by walking across the Arch grounds from the front of Old Cathedral at Walnut Street and then walking down the Grand Staircase to Leonor K. Sullivan Blvd. The Riverfront is also accessible from Laclede’s Landing and Chouteau Ave. on the south. People riding MetroLink should exit at the Laclede’s landing station.
