5/28/15-Great Rivers Greenway And Trailnet Will Kick Off The Second Month Of Their “Try The Greenways” Ride Series On June 2, With Featured Rides Along The Dardenne Greenway

Great Rivers Greenway, the St. Louis area’s regional parks and trails district, has once again teamed up with Trailnet to offer a free, guided group bike ride every week in June to both new and experienced cyclists. The two organizations began offering their “Try the Greenways” series of rides in May and will continue to do so every week through Sept. 28 to give residents a chance to explore a different greenway every month in St. Louis City, St. Louis County or St. Charles County. The weekly ride in June will take place every Tuesday evening in St. Charles County on the Dardenne Greenway, which lies within Great Rivers Greenway’s River Ring network.

Trailnet will lead the June ride, which will take cyclists on a four-mile trek along the Dardenne Greenway, from St. Charles Community College to the Pavilion at Rabbit Run Park and back again. All are welcome to ride this same route every Tuesday throughout the month of June (June 2nd, June 9th, June 16th, June 23rd and June 30th). Registration for each ride begins at 5:30 p.m. at St. Charles Community College, located at 4601 Mid Rivers Mall Dr. in Cottleville, with rides departing at 6 p.m. Cyclists should meet at the roundabout on the Dardenne Greenway, located on the southeast side of campus, near the intersection of Cottleville Parkway and Mid Rivers Mall Drive.

The weekly rides held in May gave cyclists the opportunity to explore the Centennial Greenway in Clayton. The remaining planned rides in July, August and September will give residents the opportunity to try the River Des Peres, St. Vincent and Gravois Greenways.

“Our goal is to welcome people who are new or newly returning to bicycle riding on the greenways,” says Elizabeth Simons, Great Rivers Greenway Community Programs Manager. “Each ride will start with a bike safety and trail etiquette briefing and include fun facts about the greenway.”
