04/29/14-St. Andrew’s To Host 3rd Annual Derby Brunch

ST. LOUIS, MO., April 29, 2014… St. Andrew’s will bring the charm and excitement of the Kentucky Derby back to St. Louis on May 4, as it hosts its 3rd annual Derby Brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the elegant Magic Chef Mansion, located at 3400 Russell Blvd. in St. Louis City. Guests are invited to don their biggest and fanciest hats for the exclusive Southern garden party, which will feature mint juleps and other signature cocktails, decadent food from some of the area’s most notable chefs and restaurants, carriage rides, live music, a vintage hat display, a culinary judging panel featuring Cassy Vires of Home Wine Kitchen and Jason Bockman of Strange Donuts and a contest to find the “most fabulous” and “most creative” Derby hat. Proceeds from the event will benefit local low-income and at-risk seniors.

Upon arrival, guests can get their photos taken with a race horse and then hop aboard a horse-drawn carriage for a ride through the lush park grounds surrounding Magic Chef Mansion. Back at the Mansion, the $100 ticket price will give guests the chance to sip craft beer, whiskey, mint juleps and other libations from an exclusive cocktail bar hosted by Spirits of St. Louis, and enjoy delicious food samples from Ces & Judy’s Catering, CheezSource Consulting, The Chef Shoppe, Companion Bakery, Home Wine Kitchen, Marcoot Jersey Creamery, the Missouri Athletic Club, Obtuse Catering, River City Casino, Ronocco Coffee, Strange Donuts, the Truffle Shack and Zettie’s Confections. Live music will be provided by guitarist John Chiecsek of Miss Jubilee and the Humdingers, and mansion tours will be available for the duration of the event.

During the event, Carol Ann Miller of Fashions from the Past, will also be on hand with a vintage hat display. Event attendees can try on the hats, many dating back to 1800, and have their photos taken in the hats. The Brunch will also feature a silent auction, with chances to win Cardinals tickets, along with a new horse racing game for guests to take part in.

At the close of the event, a culinary judging panel comprised of local celebrities will vote on their favorite savory and sweet event dishes. The panel will include Cassy Vires, owner of Home Wine Kitchen and Jason Bockman, owner of Strange Donuts. The chefs with the winning dishes will be honored and publically announced.  In addition, a separate panel of hat judges will announce their picks for “most fabulous” and “most creative” hat at the event. Hat judges will include Carol Ann Miller of Fashions of the Past and Margaret Rambo, reporter, with Town & Style magazine.

“If you haven’t attended our Derby Bunch before, we highly encourage you to check out this year’s event,” said Ashley Turigliatto, Development Manager, St. Andrew’s Charitable Foundation. “We try very hard to bring a slice of the Kentucky Derby to St. Louis, and year after year, we continue to succeed. From the elegance of the Magic Chef Mansion grounds to the scrumptious food and drinks, and all the signature Derby hats, the Brunch is much more than just an event – it’s a one-of-a-kind experience that shouldn’t be missed. And what’s most exciting is that we’re having fun, while also helping to raise much-needed funds for low-income seniors in the St. Louis area.”

Since 1961, St. Andrew’s has been the place where seniors, their families and caregivers find answers through retirement living options, in-home care, and geriatric care management.
