04/22/13 – St. Andrews to Host 2nd Annual Derby Brunch

ST. LOUIS, MO., April 22, 2013… St. Andrew’s is inviting area residents to don their fanciest hats and prepare to indulge in some delicious mint juleps, as it hosts its 2nd annual Derby Brunch on May 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the elegant Magic Chef Mansion, located at 3400 Russell Blvd in St. Louis City. This year’s event will also feature food tastings from some of St. Louis’ most notable chefs, a culinary judging panel featuring numerous local celebrities and a contest to find the “most fabulous” and “most creative” Derby hat. Proceeds from the signature garden party-style gathering will benefit local low-income and at-risk seniors.

Upon arrival, guests can get their photos taken with a race horse and then hop aboard a horse-drawn carriage for a ride through the lush park grounds surrounding Magic Chef Mansion. Back at the Mansion, a $75 general admission ticket will give guests the chance to sip champagne, wine, craft beer and mint juleps, and  enjoy delicious food samples from Ces & Judy’s, Liz Schuster of Tenacious Eats, Companion Bakery, Frostbite Gourmet Ice Cream, Mission Catering, the Missouri Athletic Club, Obtuse Catering, Ronocco Coffee, River City Casino and the Truffle Shack. Live music will be provided by guitarist John Chiecsek, and mansion tours will also be available from 1-2 p.m.

For $100, guests can purchase VIP tickets, which will give them access to all the benefits of a general admission ticket, plus admission to a special VIP area that will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. VIP guests can enjoy additional food tastings from Salt and the Sweet Divine, a tea sitting with antique tea service from Fezziwig’s Marketplace, guided whiskey tastings from Spirits of St. Louis and live entertainment from the Aberdeen Quartet. VIPs can also tour the Mansion from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

At the close of the event, a culinary judging panel comprised of local celebrities will vote on their favorite savory and sweet event dishes. The panel will include Marc Felix, chef and author; Frazer Cameron, owner of Frazer’s Restaurant & Lounge; Jenna Siebert, owner of the Sweet Divine and winner of “Cupcake Wars” on the Food Network; and Roseanne Toroian from Schnucks Magazine.  The chefs with the winning dishes will be honored and publically announced.

Hat judges will include reporter Robin Smith from KMOV-TV; Susan Block, owner of The Designing Block; Dianne Isbell of Dianne Creations; and Marcia Smith of the Marcia Smith Designing Group.

“Our Derby Brunch is much more than an event –  it’s really an experience that shouldn’t be missed,” said Lana Shepek, event chair. “From the elegance of the Magic Chef Mansion and grounds, to the delicious food and drinks and fun Derby hats, we’re working to bring a slice of the Kentucky Derby right here to St. Louis. And the best part is, those that take part in the event get to have an amazing time while also helping to raise much-needed funds for low-income seniors in our area.”
