12/17/12 – New Ramp Improves Acessibility at Delta Dental Health Theatre

The Delta Dental Health Theatre of St. Louis recently unveiled a newly installed ADA compliant ramp that will make its facility on the Landing in downtown St. Louis more accessible to all. This addition was possible thanks to a $2,550 donation from multiple guests at its golf outing.

A group of individuals from Fine Line Studios was among the first to experience this added amenity following a ribbon cutting celebrating its completion. Fine Line Studios is an initiative of RHD-Missouri, which has been providing services to people with developmental disabilities in the St Louis Metropolitan area since May 2008. Fine Line Studios provides individuals labeled developmentally disabled with the tools and materials to create art and the supports to define themselves as artists. In addition to their art-related activities, participating artists are encouraged to explore their community by taking trips to local museums, parks, concerts, shopping for supplies and participating in volunteer opportunities. The creative Delta Dental Health Theatre is one of their preferred locations but, up until now, it was only accessible for some of the participants.

“We are so grateful for the addition of this ramp to our facilities,” said Shannon Woodcock, executive director of Delta Dental Health Theatre. “This amenity makes it easier and safer for all of our visitors to attend and opens the door for other new groups to experience and enjoy the shows that our theatre offers on a daily basis.”

The Delta Dental Health Theatre is open from Wednesday thru Saturday and Monday and Tuesday by appointment. With three shows offered each day, the Delta Dental Health Theatre offers a unique blend of fun entertainment and education to promote healthy life choices. More than 12,000 children visit the theatre annually, underscoring the important role it plays in educating area youth.  To learn more, call 314-241-7391, visit www.ddhtstl.org or follow the theatre on Twitter @YoucanToucan.

The Delta Dental Health Theatre was originally organized as a program under the Foundation of the Greater St. Louis Dental Society in 1977. In 2002, it was incorporated as an independent 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization. Seven years ago, Delta Dental of Missouri became a major corporate sponsor supporting the theatre’s mission to improve the overall oral health and healthy habits of children and families. The theatre is located on Laclede’s Landing in the same building as the Old Spaghetti Factory.
