Belleville, Ill., Oct. 31, 2012… Nearly 1,200 individuals in search of new career opportunities packed Gateway Center in Collinsville, Ill., last month for the 2012 JOBS PLUS JOB FAIR. The free event gave job seekers the chance to meet with a range of St. Louis area employers from a wide variety of industries. And, many of those job seekers may soon be on the path to achieving their employment goals, as surveys collected from participating employers indicate that 147 positions will likely be filled as a result of the fair.
St. Louis area companies taking part in this year’s event included Ameren, Argosy Casino, TheBANK of Edwardsville, Charter Communications, Casino Queen, Federal Express, Prairie State Energy Campus, Schnucks, Solutia, SRA International, Target, Woods Basement Systems and a host of others. Attendees had the chance to share their resumes with prospective employers, and private meeting spaces were made available for employers wishing to conduct on-the-spot interviews with job seekers. A number of free informational workshops for job seekers also took place during the event. Topics included: making a job fair work for you; dressing for success; mock interviewing; job search tips for seniors; using the Illinois workNet Internet-based job search website and other web-based job search engines; and tips on filling out online job applications.
Overall feedback on the 2012 event from participating employers was overwhelmingly positive. Pat Schutzenhofer, supervisor, employment, from Schnuck Markets, Inc., commented, “This had to be one of the best job fairs I’ve ever attended. Keep up the good work and please invite us back.”
“With so many people struggling to find jobs in the current economy, we were thrilled to have had the opportunity to unite local employers with qualified job candidates,” said Mark Kern, St. Clair County Board Chairman. “And, it’s incredible to hear that 147 people will have the chance to embark on new job opportunities as a result of our fair. This event was truly a win-win for our participating employers and job seekers alike.”
