1/05/12 – U.S. Cellular and the St. Louis Cardinals Announce World Championship Trophy Tour

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 5, 2012 – The thrill and excitement of the St. Louis Cardinals World Championship has been reignited with the announcement of a World Championship Trophy Tour presented by U.S. Cellular and the St. Louis Cardinals. From Jan. 7 through April 7, the trophy tour will make 53 stops at U.S. Cellular stores in communities throughout Missouri, Southwestern and Central Illinois and Tulsa, Oklahoma, and will provide fans with the unique opportunity to have their photo taken for free with the trophy.

“Through our partnership with the Cardinals, we are always looking for ways to enhance the fan experience,” said Michelle Groves, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in St. Louis. “The trophy tour is one of the ways U.S. Cellular and the Cardinals can reward fans for their loyalty and support. We’re happy to provide this unique opportunity for fans to get an up close and personal look at this piece of Cardinals history.”

The World Championship Trophy Tour kicked off today with a press conference hosted by U.S. Cellular and the St. Louis Cardinals at the U.S. Cellular retail location in Maplewood. Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III and U.S. Cellular representatives revealed the details for the tour, including the dates, times and locations of the tour stops. The trophy will be on the road for three months starting Saturday, Jan. 7. Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., fans can stop by the U.S. Cellular store in University City to be among the first to enjoy this experience. The store is located at 6623 Delmar Blvd.*

“U.S. Cellular is an outstanding partner of the Cardinals,” said DeWitt. “The U.S. Cellular trophy tour is a great opportunity for our fans to connect with the symbol of our 11th World Championship.”

The 30-pound trophy stands two-feet tall and features 30 gold-plated flags, one for each of the Major League Baseball teams, which rise above an arched baseball with latitude and longitude lines symbolizing the world. To ensure the proper preservation, the trophy will travel in a clear case in its own luxury vehicle throughout the tour.

At each of the trophy tour stops, Cardinal fans are invited to come to the retail location and get a photograph taken with the trophy at no cost. Attendees are also welcome to bring their own cameras or devices to take pictures. While at the U.S. Cellular store, fans can upgrade their wireless device to a smartphone like a Motorola Electrify that has a high-quality camera, and get a double play on savings of U.S. Cellular’s line-up of cutting-edge devices with a waived activation fee and instant rebate on all devices when purchased the day of the tour stop.

For those that may have forgotten their cameras, U.S. Cellular associates will have an HTC Flyer mobile tablet on hand to take pictures of the fans and can send the photos directly to their email accounts so the picture can be shared with friends and family.
